UV Protection: the fabric that shields from the sun
The sun is the protagonist of the summer season and, with its arrival, wardrobes make room for short sleeves T-shirts, Polo shirts and all those garments that provide greater freshness and comfort. For those who spend their days outdoors, whether at the seaside or at high altitude, during the hottest hours it is essential to wear clothing capable of shielding ultraviolet rays, keeping the skin protected. To meet this requirement, it is advisable to choose garments with UPF protection.
What are the benefits of clothing with UPF protection?
Clothing with UPF protection is essential for protecting the skin from solar rays, which would pass through fabrics with great ease. UPF, “Ultraviolet Protection Factor” (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) is a rating system used to measure the level of protection fabrics provide against ultraviolet (UV) rays, namely the garment's ability to prevent them from penetrating the fabric and damaging the skin. Much like sunscreen, which protects exposed areas, garments with UPF protection absorb a portion of the radiation, offering effective protection. However, this value varies according to numerous factors, including the colour of the material used. Naturally, body parts not covered by UPF clothing remain unprotected, as the protection refers exclusively to parts of the body entirely covered by the garment.
Payper UPF Articles
Test results carried out on Payper articles, according to standard UNI EN 13758-1:2007, demonstrate that these, intrinsically, therefore without any form of chemical treatment, ensure UPF > 50 protection (the value assumed as maximum on the reference scale) for the majority of colours tested. The result is protection that does not fade over time. This rating therefore indicates that the fabric used for the development of Payper clothing blocks 98% of UV rays, allowing only 2% to pass through. For greater transparency and to clearly identify the level of protection of our garments, we have created a symbol that identifies articles with UPF protection and an explanatory table showing the UPF protection values for all colours tested.
UV protection garments are therefore certified to guarantee constant protection from UV rays, with the same lightness and breathability, keeping the skin fresh and protected.
