A revolutionary fabric that has now become
indispensable in contemporary garments, elastane has managed to transform the

Born more than six decades ago with the aim of
obtaining an elastic, resistant and durable material, elastane spread rapidly,
finding application in various sectors, particularly in clothing, helping to
redefine the concept of fit. Thanks to its ability to stretch and recover its
original shape, elastane has enabled, especially in workwear, sportswear and
casual wear, the creation of lightweight and close-fitting garments that can
follow body movements, thus overcoming the typical rigidity of natural fabrics
such as linen, wool and cotton.
The technical secret of elastane: strength, flexibility and shape memory
Characterised by an incredible molecular structure that allows it to extend up to seven times its initial length and then instantly return to its original shape, elastane is endowed with extraordinary elastic strength, which represents the technological heart of this fibre.Rarely used in its pure form, elastane unleashes its potential when blended with natural or synthetic fibres; a minimal percentage of this material is indeed sufficient to transform rigid denim into a high-performance fabric or cotton poplin into a comfortable and practical material. Other properties of elastane include:
- breathability: the molecular structure allows moisture to be wicked away, keeping the skin dry;
- durability: elastane is a robust material, capable of resisting tears and lacerations in garments, ensuring prolonged durability;
- softness: the smooth, flexible and elastic structure provides the wearer with a sensation of comfort;
- easy care, easy wear: thanks to its extraordinary shape memory, garments containing elastane tend not to crease, absorb little water and therefore dry quickly, requiring no ironing;
- lightness: thanks to minimal moisture absorption and a thin, resistant structure, garments containing elastane are extremely lightweight and high-performing.
